Weight
Down to 153 today...which tells me I have to stay away from nuts.  Now, I haven't tried any other nuts besides almonds and pecans, but at this point I'm reluctant to do so.  Like I said, I don't really need them; I'll eat more veggies if I'm hungry.

Every day on my grow-or-cut hair survey has been "grow"; with two days left, it seems pointless to continue.  So grow it will be!  --At least for a while.  I've learned over the years that hair length doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition.  If in two months time I change my mind and get it all chopped off again, that's fine too.

Weight
154 today, down half a pound.  Pretty sure the almonds are a no-no, but need more than one day to confirm.

I've been hearing more and more about Alzheimer's Disease basically being type 3 diabetes, which makes perfect sense to me, as someone who is insulin resistant.  That's an excellent article at the link.  "If you have insulin resistance, then your carbohydrate metabolism is badly damaged."  --Yep, that's me.

I started on Monday, the 3rd, keeping a log of how I feel about my hair, cut or grow.  I have a 10 day log, ending on the 12th, so I can give my stylist plenty of notice to cancel (the appt. is on the 14th), should the vote go that way...which I'm pretty sure it will.  It's just a fun little distraction.

Weight
154.5 today.
When I gave up bacon, I started adding nuts (almonds) back into my diet, a quarter of a cup every afternoon, and I believe that was a mistake.  So I'm giving them up (again) starting today and see if my weight starts dropping.  If not, if I've reached terminal weight, that's fine, but I need to know.  It's simple enough to give them up (nuts); half the time I think they're simply a habit instead of true hunger.  And if I'm truly hungry, then I need to eat some veggies.

On a positive note, here are my measurements (bust, waist, hips):
Sept. 2014 = 44/42/44
March 2015 = 44/41/44
June 2016 = 43/40/41
July 2017 = 40/35.5/38.5

Quite the difference, eh?!  :-)

Suddenly I want to grow out my hair again.  I don't know what happened, what changed...this is the greatest hair cut I've ever had--seriously.  It flatters me, it's easy to care for, it disguises my thin spots.  I was at work on Monday, doing nothing in particular, when suddenly, literally out of the blue, I got the urge to grow my out my hair.  *sigh*  And I guess there's nothing wrong with going from one end of the length spectrum to the other, but I thought *this* hair cut was it, you know?  I have an appointment with my scissors lady next Friday, the 14th, so I have until then to decide.

Weight 156 today.
I had a dalliance with peanut butter a few weeks ago that momentarily derailed me; got back up to 158 pounds.  I must have lost my damn mind if I thought I could handle peanut butter...the devil's spread is what it is!!  LoL  Thankfully, I realized in time that I can IN NO WAY eat even just a little peanut butter, and so I threw away half a jar.  Nana ain't havin' none of it, nosireebob.  Also, I'm going zero carb, at least for a while.  I do this every now and then, eat only meat.  My body does very well on zero carb.

I got a haircut today, a short, short haircut and I absolutely love it!  All of a sudden, I just couldn't stand my hair anymore.  It's as if it reaches a certain length  nowadays and then (I think) it doesn't look good...as if longish hair doesn't suit me anymore.  And maybe it doesn't.  Maybe I'm not *that* person anymore, just like I'm not the person who weighs 200 pounds anymore.  Hmm...

Weight Loss
156/156 1/2 today.  Honestly, there's not much to report, so that's why I only post about once a month anymore--which is probably a good thing, if you think about it.  Our weather has decided to remind us that, technically, it is STILL winter, with temperatures dropping from the 60's to the 30's.  We even got some snow flurries this week, although no accumulation (thankfully).  Anyway, when we start experiencing spring temperatures again (i.e. warmer) then I plan on resuming my daily walks.

Other
I'm growing out my hair again.  I just decided yesterday to do so.  Numerous reasons...I like the shorter style, really I do.  But it takes a lot of maintenance; trims every 4-6 weeks, money for the trims, mousse, blow-drying, washing more often, etc.  Plus you know I'm a long-hair woman at heart--probably always will be.  So yeah, I'm giving it another go.  :-)

The granddaughter is being assessed for kindergarten today, starting this fall.  Kindergarten, for crying out loud...when did that happen??  I am not ready for her to be this old, and I know it's even worse for her mama.  She's attended a day school since she was a baby, and yet every time I think of her starting regular school, I get a knot in my stomach and feel like I'm going to throw up.  I'm not sure why; it's probably tied up somehow with my own mortality.

Hair
It's been a week since the cut and I still love my shorter hair.  Honestly, I am a bit surprised; it is usually around this point after getting a cut that I decide to restart the growing-out process.  It sort of feels as if a switch has been flipped off...that I finally realize how much easier thin hair is to disguise with a shorter mane.  I'm still using Pantene shampoo for body, but I've added some lightweight mousse and hairspray to the routine.  (Still washing every other day.)  I'm also trying an apple cider vinegar rinse in place of conditioner; we'll see how well that works.  I've even started using a blow dryer again!  So the lineup goes like this:  wash, vinegar rinse, water rinse; towel dry, apply mousse, blow dry to just damp; comb into place & let air dry.  An hour or so later, after I'm dressed for work, I brush out my hair where I want it & then I use a little hairspray to keep everybody in their place.  I'm not worried anymore about my thin spots showing; this hair style is a winner.

Weighty Matters
Current weight 167 1/2, and I'm on the 6th notch of the belt.  Yesterday was the wellness screening.  My weight registered at 169 1/2, fully clothed, shoes and all.  I was so tickled!  I don't think I've ever weighed that little at a wellness screening.  I'm very happy with my progress.  And yet...as I explained to my friend/mentor Adele, I'm having a weird reaction to being in the 160s.  It's almost as if there's a part of that thinks I don't deserve to weigh this much.  --And if I'm having trouble dealing with the 160s, what's going to happen when I reach the 150s?  --the 140s??  I'm not going to stop, that's for sure.  So that scared little girl inside me will simply have to learn to deal.

A friend named Bob

Hair
Recently I had been stressing over my thinning hair.  Even though hair weighs virtually nothing, the thinness seems to worsen when my length hits a certain measurement.  Around shoulder length is apparently as long as I should go now.  *sigh*  I had so wanted to grow out my hair to terminal length just once, but the reality is that is not going to happen.  So yesterday afternoon I got a cut (with my usual scissors lady, Cheryl--she's a gem), a collar length bob...and my hair feels and looks amazing.  I love the way it moves!  I truly am at a point in my life where I need to keep my hair shorter.  Of course, I will continue to take good care of the hair I have, and I will probably always have a fascination with hair products.  I just need to change my mindset with regards to thinning hair and ego.  I do not require long hair (or any hair, really) to be me.
My "muchness" comes from within.  :-)

Weighty Matters
168 today.  I'm down to the 5th notch on my belt.

Hair
Those of you who have read this (or the previous) blog know that my hair is thinning on top.  Most of the time I pretend it's okay...that I'm okay with it.  I am not.  I try to pretend that the thin spots are covered if I comb my hair a certain way, or if I use thickening shampoo it helps.  It does not.  Just in the past couple of weeks I've noticed my hair, well, the hair on top of my head, looking thinner, and I'm wondering if its because of length.  Most hair weighs very little, yet when one is dealing with thinness/baldness issues then I guess even an extra ounce has enough pull to cause problems.  My hair is now bra strap length and I'm considering cutting it back to shoulder length or even shorter.  I mean, my hair looks okay (sort of) when I pull it up into a clip.  But I have the feeling I'm doing harm to it by wearing it that way almost every day.  So I'm dealing...well, TRYING to deal with the harsh reality that I may never be able to have long hair again.  I'm very sad about it.  I'm trying NOT to be sad, yet I am.  I think I should make an appointment with my stylist and get her opinion.  *sigh*

Weighty Matters
I've been "Leading With the Diet" for 5 months now.  This way of eating gives me the clarity I need to get through situations like what I described above.  Next week The Mister and I are participating in a wellness screening sponsored by the university where I work (free through my insurance) and for the first time in a long time, I am actually looking forward to getting the results.  I'm especially eager to compare this year's results (such as weight) with those of my last screening, which happened so long ago that I can't even remember the year.  I'll share those numbers here when I get them.

Hair
New month, new photo.
No change in products or anything; still using Pantene as the primaries.  Probably need to do a vinegar rinse soon.

Weighty Matters
171 today.  Adele pointed out (reminded me) that carrots have a high glycemic index, so I've banished them from my WOE (Way Of Eating).  Doing well in general.  Every time I catch myself wishing the weight would drop faster I remind myself that it took years to gain these pounds, and it could take years to lose them--and to just be patient.  My ever-loosening clothes and the number on the scale reassure me that this plan DOES work.  (Just look at the saggy butt in those pants in the picture above!!)  Yes, it's simply a matter of sticking with Adele's 4 Ps of the Journey.

Hair
Last week, on Monday the 8th, I began practicing the CWC method, which stands for Condition/Wash/Condition, and I have to say I love it.  I don't know why I haven't practiced this method during the years I've been growing and re-growing my hair.  It's so very simple, and my length feels divine.  I'm using up the Herbal Essences body something-or-other for the first condition, my normal Pantene for the wash, and Pantene again for the final condition.  Yeah, Herbal Essences was all right, but in the end I returned home to Pantene.  Anyway, I have found that I can leave my length down with few to no tangles, and my hair feels wonderful.

Nonsense
I've had a love affair with long skirts for years now.  They're comfortable, they're modest, and I felt that I looked decent in them.  But recently...I don't know what happened.  I almost can't stand to wear the long skirts.  They...I don't know, it's weird!  They still feel comfortable, but...they're just not me anymore.  It makes me a little sad, to be honest.  I have skirts that are shorter, that hit just below the knee, and they feel fine.  It's just the long skirts that...well, I'm afraid I'll end up giving them away. In fact I'm now more comfortable in trousers than skirts where it used to be just the opposite.  Isn't it funny how our taste in clothing sometimes does a 180.  Different seasons of life, I guess.  Maybe it has something to do with my weight loss and feeling more confident with clothing that shows off a little more of my shape.

Speaking of weight loss, I have been doing so.  Last January, 2015, I stepped on my bathroom scale and waited for the digital numbers to stop spinning.

Now...at that time I did not weigh myself on a regular basis.  I am one of those folks who believe that a bathroom scale is not an accurate tool for measurement.  All you have to do is google "why the bathroom scale lies" and read for yourself.  However, once in a great while I used to step on the thing, just to get a general idea of what was going on.

When the numbers finally settled on that first day of January 2015, my birthday by the way, I saw 198.  One hundred and ninety-eight pounds...two pounds shy of 200. Holy...I have never been skinny* but I had never, ever weighed THAT much in my entire life.  Believe me, I'm all for the HAES movement, and for people living their lives however they please.  But for me, 198 was too much.  It's not that I couldn't handle being that size; I'm 5' 7.5" and do not have a delicate little frame.  But I had lost a lot of weight in 2005 on a low carbohydrate diet**--had gotten down to 150 pounds and felt absolutely amazing.

Thing is, I hadn't felt amazing in a long, long time.  You see, in 2012-2013 a couple of life events happened that really knocked me off kilter.  My granddaughter was born in July of 2012, and in early 2013 my husband bought a small business.  I, well "we", both my husband and I, started taking the easy way out, eating a lot of fast food, and the pounds piled on for both of us.  I reached my limit in October of 2015 and rediscovered a site called Lead With The Diet.  It's run by a super lady named Adele and well, I'll let you read about her at the website.  There's a message board attached to her website, but there isn't a lot of activity.  In fact, I think right now it's just her and me.  I've kept a journal there, however one must be a member to read, so I think I'm going to start copying and moving those entries to this blog.  I'm not sure how Adele feels about keeping the journals around forever, so I'm a little concerned my "record" will disappear.  I am going to tag the copied entries with the prefix "weighty matters", in case y'all want to skip over them.  I'm telling you though...this way of eating** has changed my life.  I'm currently at 172.5 pounds and feel so much healthier.  My goal is to hit 150 pounds again, or even lower.

*Except for that one time in my early 20s when I basically starved myself to fit into a size 7 dress.  What an idiot I was...

**I hate that word (diet).

Hair

Even though I've been a Pantene gal for years, every now and again I get the urge to try something new.  So recently, last Sunday to be exact, the 24th, I started using (drum roll, please) Herbal Essences Body Envy shampoo and conditioner.  With my fine, thin hair, I need a shampoo that gives me oomp, and the Body Envy line fits the bill.  When I switch product lines I always like to do an ACV rinse first, to help cleanse away any residue--clean slate and all that.  Since I'm not washing my hair every day, I've only used the HE shampoo/condish about three times, but so far I'm liking the results.  In all honesty, the HE doesn't seem to be doing any better than Pantene, but it's definitely on the same (great) level with it.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Nonsense

The new boss has been here a week.  I really like him!  I was hoping I would, and I know one week isn't long enough to form an official opinion, but I really like him.  I mean, I was on the hiring committee that met with him a couple of months ago, and liked him then.  But people can fake certain qualities in interviews long enough to get hired.  This guy though, is genuinely nice.  He's down to earth, funny, chatty, has good stories and is SO like-able.  (Did I mention that I REALLY like him?!)  I'm excited to see where he'll take us (my department) in the future.

My daughter will be starting a new job tomorrow (yes, again!), working as a medical assistant for a local doctor, making $15 an hour, a lot more than her soon-to-be-old-job was paying.  As a single mother, or as just a normal human really, you have to go where the money is, and her old job simply was not getting it.

My granddaughter is taking swimming lessons through her day school, and she's loving it.  That girl has lived in a swim suit this summer, literally...she would wear them everywhere if we'd let her.  Next year she'll go to kindergarten--hard to believe.  Ugh, let me not think about it.  LoL

The Mister's shop is doing so-so...the economy is awful right now, which has a negative effect on his business.  He's paying the bills, most weeks, but only just.  He's certainly not getting rich.  Which is why I've decided to NOT retire next year and go to work for him.  He literally can't afford me.  LoL  If I did retire next year, why I would just have turn around and get a job someplace else.  Well...why do *that* when I can just stay here, where I know what I'm doing and I know everyone, etc.?  Now, if I could land a job that paid a heckuva lot better than what I'm currently earning--?  Meh, I might consider leaving.  But in this economy and in this area?  That's highly unlikely.

The public schools start here next Thursday, the 11th; and classes here at the university start on the 22nd.  The school year beginning means summer is on the run and my beloved Autumn isn't far behind!  I can hardly wait for the temperatures to drop enough so I can resume my daily walks.

Hair
Really nothing new or important to report.  I did try the, uh, I don't even know what to call that routine...the one-step condition and shampoo, where the conditioner goes on first and then one shampoos as regular.  Yeah, anyway...I tried it a couple of times and it simply did not work for me.  But oh well, I tried it.  *shrug*  I still haven't measured, but will make an effort to do so for July.  Daily style has been an updo held with a claw clip.

Nonsense
Well, summertime heat and intense humidity has arrived in Southeast Missouri, and you know how much I love that.  (SARCASM)  The usual summer funk arrived with the extreme heat, as it always does.  All I can do is be aware of the negative emotional state and try to keep an even keel.  I've taken to employing all sorts of mental tricks, including counting the days until Autumn (91 days, 23 hours, 3 minutes, 45 seconds, as of this writing), and thinking "cold" thoughts--of brisk fall breezes and wearing jackets and drinking hot beverages to keep warm.  Aaaah, refreshing!

The garden seems to be doing okay; no produce yet, but we got a late start.  The Mister proposed, and I agreed, that next year he build some raised beds for us to plant.  I wish we had done that this year but, as I said, we were running late as it was.  I simply do not have the time, patience, or inclination to weed a full-size garden spot.  I laid down ground cover this year, but it doesn't reach everywhere, so some places are just going to be on their own.  The garden is primarily my baby, although The Mister is the one who tills the thing.  Neither of us is getting any younger and raised beds will be so much easier to tend.

I'll be getting a new boss soon, July 25th to be exact.  My old boss, Assistant VP for Information Technology, officially resigned one year ago this month, but offered to stay on part time until his replacement could be hired.  It took one year to find someone suitable enough, that should tell you something.  My old boss will be sorely missed, there's no doubt about it.  However, I'm pretty excited for the new guy to get here, to see what he has in store for us.  Change is in the air, children...

6/2/2016

I sort of dropped off the face of the earth for a while there, didn't I?  Sorry about that!

Hair

Haven't measured in...oh, probably three months; the above photo was snapped a few minutes ago.  Just from doing a "feel", I'd say my hair is at least an inch away from the top of the band of my bra.  I'm still practicing benign neglect--just a wash and condition every 2-3 days, and keeping it up most of the time (either in a low pony or a clip).  I read a tip somewhere online the other day that sounds so simple that I wonder why I didn't think of doing it myself.  On wash days, where you would normally lather up, then rinse, then apply conditioner, then rinse again...basically you lather, do not rinse, apply conditioner, THEN you rinse it all out at the same time.  It sounds interesting enough that I'm going to give it a whirl soon.

Nonsense

Not much has happened between April and now.  Well, I broke a pinky toe, so I guess that's not nothing.  At least I'm pretty sure it's broken, or fractured at the very least.  I did not seek medical attention because I know nothing can be done, medically speaking, for broken toes.  The short story is that a heavy door closed over my foot, rolling the pinky toe into an unnatural position and SNAP.  It felt like a gash; in fact, I expected to find a pool of blood when I removed my shoe at home.  Instead, the toe was red and swollen, and already starting to turn lovely shades of purple.  That happened on...I think it was the 17th of May, so I've already gotten in some healing time.  I can only wear sneakers (my wonderful Asics), but at least I am at the point now where I can mostly move at a normal gait, provided I am careful.  Oh, it lets me know when I move the wrong way, trust me!

We're experiencing a very wet spring here in Southeast Missouri, one of the wettest ones I can remember.  My daughter jokingly says it's my fault for planting a garden.  LoL  I planted tomatoes (17 plants...why did I plant so many?!), edamame, cucumber, eggplant, pumpkin, watermelon, squash, cataloupe, and The Mister planted 2 rows of sweet corn and 1 of bush beans.  Sugar Cookie has been helping with the planting and the watering; it's good experience for her.

4/5/2016

Taken just this morning; you're getting a photo instead of a number, since I didn't have time to measure.  Length is coming along nicely.  It seems...thinner since I got it cut this last time.  Don't know if I'm simply imagining it (hopefully) or if the thinning has truly gotten worse.  I try not to focus on that issue too much, because worrying does no good.  As long as I keep it clean, or use the dry shampoo, the hair on top of my head looks all right.  Still using Pantene "thickening" products and washing about every other day.

Nonsense
March was a busy month, and not entirely a good one.  One of my three remaining aunts, my mother's twin sister, fell in her home on the 7th and broke a hip.  (I don't know what it is about older folks breaking hips, but it happens a lot.)  She turned 89 in February.  Aunt "Em" has some sort of dementia; she's been showing all the typical signs for at least three years now.  But she's an old farm gal, and country folk tend not to thrive in nursing homes.  Maybe it's a caged animal type of thing, I don't know.  So anyway, her children were trying to keep her at home for as long as possible.  They would check on her daily, more than once every day.  But sh*t happens, you know.  *shrug*  After healing from hip surgery, my aunt is now in a nursing home, where I'm sure she will live out the remainder of her days.  I visited her once during the hospital stay; she didn't know me.  It didn't upset me, because I've been around enough people with dementia to know how to navigate those murky waters.  But I doubt I'll visit her in the nursing home.  The part of my brain that is always concerned with social niceties makes me feel that I should go.  But I mean, she doesn't recognize me, so what would be the point?

Turning to happier news, on Sunday, the 20th of March, The Mister and I both qualified for a conceal carry permit.  My state requires 8 hours of training, 4 of those in a lecture setting and 4 on the shooting range.  I was happy to see a good amount of ladies in the class, 7 out of 19 total.

It took me four different guns and four hours but, by golly, I did it.  Of course The Mister had no problems.  Show off!  :-)   I own a S&W .38 hammerless revolver, and that's initially the gun I was shooting.  But the recoil was too much for me; it hurts my hands, not to mention scaring the crap out of me.  So my instructor had me try different pistols.  First a .38 *with* a hammer; a little better, still way too much recoil.  The Mister's 9mm had less recoil than both .38s, but still too much for me.  Finally the instructor brought out a sweet 1911 .22 -- it was smooth as glass...no recoil whatsoever!  Once I found the right gun, I had no problem placing 15 out of 20 required shots within the black silhouette.

A few days after the class, The Mister took me to a local gun shop and let me pick out a new (to me) .22, another S&W.  He even constructed a couple of target holders for us to use at home, clever man!  Anyway, the right gun makes all the difference.  This one is a joy to shoot and I want to practice every day.  (Realistically, I don't have time, but I *want* to shoot every day.)  I have not yet worn the .22 concealed.  First, I don't yet have a holster for it.  Secondly, I spend most of my week days at the office, on a university campus, where conceal carrying a weapon is against the rules (and could be a firing offense, if severe enough).  Thirdly, I have to decide if I want to carry on body or off body (a purse or bag).  I do intend to carry concealed, however I'm in no hurry.

And good news for The Daughter, as she started her new job yesterday, hoorah!  It was all orientation crap yesterday for eight hours, and another four this morning.  But this afternoon, she'll get started at the actual job.  She's so happy to be working again, and I'm happy for her.  The Mister and I will continue to provide financial support, until she starts seeing how much a normal paycheck will amount to.  Just happy we can help.

Spring is here, GLORIOUS SPRING!!!  Everything is green and blooming, the birds are singing and the bees are, er, bee-ing.  LoL  Soon the hummingbirds will arrive, hungry and demanding their sugar water.  I kept track of sugar use for a three year span a while back, and I average 60 pounds each summer, so I've already been stocking up.  And of course the grass already needs cutting, but first there's a ton of sticks that have to be picked up and done away with.  Always something to do on the farm!

Hair
Today was going to be a day for washing, measuring, and photo-taking but, alas, lack of hot water shot down the washing which of course did away with the other two.  *shrug*  Maybe tomorrow...

Nonsense
Let me preface the following long story with praise for God.  When the turmoil started I reminded my daughter that God is in control, that he had already worked out a solution for her, and all she had to do was believe and have patience.  God is so good!  All right, read on...

Thank god for January and February being over and done with.  My daughter got fired on January 18.  (I still find it ironic that my "mixed" daughter lost her job on Martin Luther King Jr Day.)  Now I'm not going to sit here and say that what she did wasn't a stupid mistake on her part.  She knew better after 8 years of working at a doctor's office that is owned by a hospital.  I also know that there must be strong rules and regulations anytime a medical facility is involved; there are too many people who would abuse a more lax system.  I could also understand if there were serious narcotics involved.  Her mistake?  She neglected to chart cough syrup and an antibiotic that she called in for a patient.

As you can imagine, my daughter was pretty upset, yet she didn't spend too much time wallowing.  Oh, she had a couple of days of verbal self-flagellation:  (Why did I do that?  I know better.  I'm such an idiot.)  But she got busy right away, looking for another job and, luckily, had several job offers at various places around town.  --The problem being that none of them were right.  One was physical labor at a wood flooring company, that she was willing to take in order to get some money coming in.  Honestly, I don't think she could have done the work, yet she was willing to try.  Two other job offers were more in line with her training and experience (medical field) but the hours were wonky, meaning I would have had more babysitting hours with Sugar Cookie.  I would have done it, but I'm not as young as I used to be.  And then the perfect solution appeared...

When my daughter first got her CNA certificate years ago, she interned at the place where I had received my chemotherapy.  (Coincidence?  I think not.)  Patsy, the lady in charge, liked my daughter so much that she offered her a full-time job.  They became friends and, even after my daughter left that job, they remained friends.  At first, my daughter didn't want Patsy to know she was job hunting; she didn't want Patsy to feel obligated.  So a month had probably gone by before Patsy knew that my daughter had been fired from her job.  She said she wished she had known sooner because she had just filled an open position.  Now here comes God working behind the scenes.  It couldn't have been more than two weeks later when Patsy contacted my daughter...the new-hire was leaving because she wanted to return to her old job!  I'm sure the formalities must be observed, as in going through applications and interviews, etc.  But for all intents and purposes, my daughter will be offered a job soon, working again in the medical field.  God does indeed work in mysterious ways, and I'm so glad he does.

February 2016 Measurement

Hair
Current length is 19 1/2", a full inch of growth from last month.  Not sure what caused it, but I'll take it.  No change in products (Pantene) or routine.  I'll snap a picture when I'm not wearing a dark colored shirt.

Nonsense
January started out very cold; we even had a smattering of snow.  Then last week the temperature began to climb to the point where yesterday I was walking around outside in my short sleeve shirt.  Freaky (but enjoyable) to say the least.  February is typically our worst winter month, so we'll see what happens.

Hair
I just took a "cheater" measurement--that's where I measure as best I can with a piece of string, comparing it to a ruler.  (Why I don't simply keep a tape measure at work I don't know.)  I believe I'm at 18 or 19 inches; I'll have The Mister help me with an official number soon.  But yeah, growing it long again...how exciting!  I've kept a hair length chart from July of 2013, just for my own kicks and giggles.  It's interesting to see where I was, lengthwise, at what time...at least it's interesting for me.  My hair grows an average of half an inch per month, so I can pretty well estimate when I'll reach what length.  Let's err on the modest side and say my current length is 18 inches.  If my hair grows at normal rate then I'll reach waist length again (30 inches) around December of 2017 or January of 2018.  It sounds like a long time I know, but experience has taught me that it'll just fly by.  The important things are to eat healthy and treat hair like a beloved pet.  *smile*

Just because my hair is shorter doesn't mean I can slack off of the care routine.  I still need to incorporate those vinegar rinses, and keep using good ol' Pantene products.  A part of me would like to try using cassia obovata again, but monthly use (as suggested) would be cost prohibitive for my budget.

Nonsense
Started scoring the stacks of teacher evaluations that have been turned in to me.  The Physics department wasn't too bad--26 manilla envelopes, each containing, I don't know...maybe 15-20 sheets to be scanned.  Anyway, Physics is done and waiting to be picked up.  I also started on the Biology department...sheesh.  Their group comes in a paper box and will take me 2-3 days to finish.  Ugh, what a waste of time and resources.

Hello!  First things first...

Hair
Before:
After:

Cheryl, my scissors lady, did a great job as usual.  I donated about 10 inches of hair but still have enough to bun or ponytail.  When I made the appointment, my intention was to get a short, short cut.  The closer the appointment came though, the more I wanted to cancel.  Then I thought, "You big dummy; it's not an all or nothing situation.  Compromise, woman, compromise."  --Which is how the collarbone length came to be.  I like this length a lot, and I look the same from the front as I did pre-cut.  Will I grow out my hair again?  Probably!  As good as this shorter length feels right now, I know myself well enough to admit that I love having super long hair--it's simply a part of who I am.

Nonsense
The Christmas holiday is over and I am back at the office.  I worked hard while at home...cleaning house, stacking wood, cooking holiday meals, etc.  I ate too much junk food but *shrug* it is what it is.  Time to get back to healthier choices and taking walks.

The flood water has us driving the long, long way to town but we are safe.  (Im)patiently waiting for the water to recede.  Our bad weather, i.e. ice and snow, usually happen in January and February, and sometimes even March, so we could get slammed anytime now.  I'm dreading it this year, more so than usual, not sure why.  I just don't want it to happen...

I turned 54 on January 1st, yay!  Next year, double nickel baby.  Heh.

Hair
Washed and conditioned this morning, left the length down.  Had I taken a noon time walk, I would have clipped it up for safety's sake.  Very much looking forward to next week's cut.  I took the "before" picture this morning and will post it along with the "after" shot when I return from break.

Nonsense
The weather is crazy here...68 degrees with a thunderstorm and a tornado watch today.  --Two days before Christmas!  It's unheard of!!  Not complaining, mind you...because aaalll of this wetness would be snow or ice if our temperature was down where it normally hits in December.  I was planning on taking a nice walk during the lunch hour today, but the wind is pretty fierce.  I may try to brave it later on, if things settle down.

The Grand-daughter has strep throat, ugh.  Just diagnosed yesterday and already has a couple of doses of the medicine shooshting through her system, so I'm hopeful the virus didn't have time to gain much of a foothold.  I picked her up early from school yesterday (to take her to the doctor) and I could tell she was sick when she said not one word.  As The Mister says, she usually talks so much you'd think she'd been inoculated with a phonograph needle.  Now this morning she woke up more like her old self, talking and smiling.  The school has a 24-hour "stay away" policy when there is fever involved, which she had...low-grade, thank goodness, so today my little princess stayed home with her mama.

Today, Wednesday, is my Friday and the entire university community is holding our collective breath, waiting for word to come from On High to dismiss early.  My Christmas shopping is finished, thank the Lord above, but I do need to fuel up the car, and then I can head home.  The Mister's shop will be closed tomorrow and Christmas day, however he will be on call (as always).  While I'm on holiday I plan on cleaning the house...I'm talking the level of removing the vent covers to vacuum, etc.  Anyway, I don't come back to work until January 4...I'll be one year older and have shorter hair.  LoL

To anyone and everyone who reads this mess of a blog, I wish you & yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Hair
I just called my stylist, making an appointment for December 30 to get my hair cut.  --She couldn't fit me in before then, which is all right...gives me plenty of time to *really* be sure I want it gone, and to warn my family a change is coming.  This article helped me decide, especially item #10, "...you're the same person regardless of what your hair looks like."  For some reason, reading those words flipped the switch; it was what I needed to give myself permission to cut it off.  Change is good.  And yes, I'll post a picture when I can, although it will be after I return from Christmas break.

Also I got to thinking...maybe I'm not meant to be a full-time longhair...maybe I'm the girl who grows her hair long so she can cut it and donate it to others who need it more than she.  Maybe I'm *that* girl...
